Guineas next for Emperor’s latest black-type winner
(2nd May 2011)
Holy Roman Emperor had his second black-type success in 24 hours on Monday when the David Wachman-trained Imperial Rome (3c Holy Roman Emperor-Ripalong, by Revoque) scored at the Curragh.
The progressive three-year-old, a five-length winner on his previous start, held off Zabarajad to beat a classy field in the Listed EBF Dylan Thomas Tetrarch Stakes.
Trainer David Wachman understandably feels the colt, a 125,000 euros yearling bred by Pier House Stud, deserves a step up in class and the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp is likely to be next on the agenda.
“He is a grand little fellow and will head next for the French Guineas,” Wachman told ww.racingpost.com. “We liked him last year but he missed a bit of time – the French Guineas round a bend might suit him and it was always our idea to go there.”
Imperial Rome was scoring a day after another Classic prospect, the Jim Bolger-trained Banimpire (3f Holy Roman Emperor-My Renee, by Kris S), took the Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park on Sunday.
