Roman Ransom – Trials

Heat 10
Roman Ransom was sore in his hind before his trial. Jason Brown noted that he didn’t feel quite 100% in the mounting yard. He jumped well but soon went short in his stride. Jason basically cantered him around the track. Post race inspection required some treatment. He has responded well, walking smoothly the day after. He will be spelled now and return in the first quarter of 2013.

Heat 5
Roman Ransom walked out of the gate, but was a lot closer this trial than his first as Ryan hill shook him up to keep on terms. Once he found his stride, he certainly looked good and Ryan said he felt very good. Ryan said he had the trial won easily and just nodded off when he hit the lead. With blinkers on he would not have noticed that horse slip up his inside but once that horse leveled up, Ryan said he put some longer strides in.
Official Trial Report
Roman Ransom produced a massive trial last time out and his outing here was far more professional albeit slightly less exhilarating. The Jim Taylor-trained bay settled outside the leader and wasn’t asked for too much effort in the straight. He looks an out-and-out stayer who will improve with racing. Roman Ransom is by Holy Roman Emperor and out of 2008 Warrnambool Cup winner Video Star.

16th July 2012 (Lark Hill)
.
On the 16th of July 2012 Roman Ransom started his racing career. He was entered into a 950m trial at Lark Hill after fitness preparation by the Strempel Training team. His trial was another learning lesson, nothing being expected as he is a horse that will take some time. His barrier jumps have been slow and were a focus for his training.
He jumped away 6L last, made up ground and caught the field by the turn, he was then was asked to accelerate by Ryan Hill and he did just that. He ran on gamely in the heavy conditions to be 3rd by 3/4 of a length. All concerned were very happy with the run and he caught the eye of a few other jockey’s in the trial.

Official Trial Report
.
Roman Ransom produced an almighty trial for Ryan Hill and Liz Strempel. The son of Holy Roman Emperor missed the start by the best part of six lengths and was still an age off the frontrunners turning for home. But under the stick, Roman Ransom revelled in the soft going and picked up a remarkable amount of ground to run third. The gelding is the first named foal out of 2008 Warrnambool Cup winner Video Star. Video Star is by Quest for Fame and out of a Zabeel mare. Looks a very smart type.

He will be prepped once more for a trial at Belmont Park with Jim Taylor and then spelled
